What SARS requires
Section 20 of the South African VAT Act prescribes the fields a tax invoice must carry: the words "Tax Invoice", the VAT vendor's name, address, and VAT registration number, the buyer's details for invoices above ZAR 5 000, a sequential invoice number, the date, a description of goods or services, the VAT-exclusive amount, the VAT rate (15%) and amount, and the total. The VAT201 return is filed monthly or bi-monthly via SARS e-Filing.
How Invoicemonk meets SARS
Invoicemonk applies the s.20 field set automatically, including the buyer-detail rule for invoices above ZAR 5 000, digitally signs the PDF, and exposes the VAT201 figures from the invoice ledger for SARS e-Filing submission. Zero-rated supplies (exports, qualifying foodstuffs) and exempt supplies (financial services, residential rental) are coded correctly.
Who this applies to
All South African VAT vendors. Mandatory registration applies above ZAR 1 million turnover; voluntary registration is available above ZAR 50 000.
